This week we are raising money for Arts & Education at work and I’m playing a couple of shows for the campaign. Playing music for a good cause is one of my favorite things about what I do. A&E is really trying to help our community from the ground up. Bringing good solid funding to programs that get children more involved in education and the arts can not be a bad thing. We need a overarching revitalization of culture in this city. With so much going on in St. Louis we would have to live in a hole in the ground not to find something entertain to do. We were able to record a bunch of songs to help raise money for the cause. I recorded a few new songs for what’s being called “The West Tower Sessions” and I will try and get them on myspace soon. We are selling the disc for $5. Pretty cool for a project that was recorded in 2 days. I wish I had a whole department, capitol, and a slew of good volunteers to put my third album out in two days. Quick and dirty is the best way to record anyway. I will get that thing out if it’s the last thing I do. - Adam
This past Saturday the Project and I were privliged to play the St. Louis Art Fair. If you are coming to the site after catching the set, I want to thank you for joining us for the performance. Further more, if you picked up a Nalgene bottle or an album, THANK YOU! The band and I are so tired of lugging those bottles around. They take up more space than Seth’s drums. CD’s are easily portable. Selling product is the keystone in building on your passion. Over the next month, the band and I are going be working on putting together the next album. Please don’t hesitate to email me at adam@stanleymusic.com if you want to be put on the list to be notified when we have it finished or to be notified when we will be playing in your area. Thanks again everyone.
Well the summer is almost finished and it’s time for good little musicians to get to work on the holiday schedule. Thanksgiving looks good, Christmas is a bust this year & NYE has all but dried up. Who wants to play Christmas Eve anyway? Not this guy. So, I’m going after this next album with a new undying sense of “what am I getting myself into now?” and “how am I going to do that again?”. The only things I have going for me is I’ve got a nice health stack of good workable tunes and I’m playing with some really great musicians; Robert Terry, Seth White & Rodney Girvin. I’m working with about 40 healthy tunes and 5 or 6 good starts. So wish me luck if your out there. May the gods of strong coffee and inspiration be on my side and the winds of good fortune stay pointed toward the finish line. Sleep tight everyone…
An old friend and I played a show together for the first time in years. We worked for a little bit before the show. We heard the bad news about Michael Jackson then played later that night. Here is a video of the two of us playing “I’ll be There” by the Jackson 5. You have got to hear Rodney Girvin play the keys. He is one of this areas most underrated players.
Things are moving right along in the music world. Thank you to all the new venues, loyal venues, production companies, retail stores, and studios. I also want to say a big thank you to the St. Louis music community for all they are doing to bring the music back to this great city. Keep putting your best foot forward everyday and something major will happen. I’m looking forward to working with all of you.
Listen to this: The band and I had a great weekend playing in St. Louis & Columbia Missouri this past weekend. We were playing outside at Les Bourgeois Winery and the sun was setting over the mighty Missouri River. On our last set, we had a guy come up and ask us to use a portion of the stage to catch the sunset. He told us that he never got to just sit and watch the sun set with his girl and he wanted to come up on stage to catch it. The band and I didn’t know if it was the wine talking or if this guy was crazy. Anyway, he asked me to take a picture of the two of them, which I did, and when he came back to get the camera, his eyes got a little wider and his hand was rummaging through his pocket. Needless to say the band and I pulled back so he was able to take a moment to get on one knee and propose. We were totally taken back by this and Bob asked if we had anything left in the set appropriate for the moment. You don’t want to let these experiences pass you by, so after she said yes we played “To Have and To Hold” and the crowd really went wild. It was one of the best moments of my career and I want to thank that couple for sharing a very important moment me and the boys. We wish you the best of luck and with that kind of romance…you won’t need it.
I went on Columbia Access Television and played on one of their shows called Notes from the Underground. I have been working on so much new music lately, I wanted to lay it down. I hope you like it. You should check out some of the shows on CATV. Notes from the Underground and Down in Front are entertaining. Check it out! Thanks so much Ryan, Michael, Andy and the rest of the crew at Notes from the Underground.
Lately things are picking up. The first 3 months of 2009 were pretty dry due to what’s going on in America’s economy. Musicians = Overhead I suppose. I tried not to take it personally. I was able to book a show in Nashville through some friends of mine @ Ugly Mugs which really opened up the gates. I am looking to book some more shows in Nashville, Memphis & Chicago. If you know of any hot spots for live music in those areas or for any ideas, I would love to hear from you. I have all my links listed at the right side of this page.
I have some of the best friends a musician can ask for at LiveFeed. Within the last two weeks Amy from LiveFeed has called me to see if I was interested helping them with some television spots in the St. Louis area. Naturally I was anxious to play a small part. I want to make sure that I thank LiveFeed properly. Without LiveFeed, I would not be where I am today. They have given me the ability to be and stay in contact with major venues in the St. Louis area. Please check them out. LiveFeed is making a major difference fighting for hunger in and around St. Louis and they are looking for any help they can find. If you have any interest let them or me know and we will be in contact with you. Here is the latest spot on Show Me St. Louis that went on right before Oprah last week.
New videos are up on YouTube. Feel free to comment. I hope you enjoy the music.
This video is put together with pictures taken of The Project performing at The Blue Note. The Song is King & Queen from my latest album “Requisite Renaissance”. King & Queen is a tight little jam that has been gaining popularity in Canada of all places. If you don’t like it, you can take off eh.
This little vid is put together with pictures taken by Benfield Photography. ”To Have and To Hold” is a simple song that has really been taking off. I hope you enjoy!
